The Mountain of 7 Colors (also known as Vinincunca or Cerro Colorado) is a natural attraction located in Cusco. It has an altitude of 5200 meters above sea level. Located on the route to Ausangate.
Its greatest tourist attraction is its slopes and peaks, which acquired various colors and shades due to the melting of ice and the erosion of a diversity of minerals that were aligned in multicolored layers, creating a spectacular effect. The coloring can be seen in the different tones that the mountain shows.
It is an excursion that allows hiking on foot or on horseback.
How to visit the Mountain of 7 Colors?
In the Historic Center of Cusco there are several tourism agencies that offer the 1-day tour to the Mountain of 7 Colors.
The tours include direct transportation to the control booth, food, entrance fees, and tour guides. The start of the tour is with the pick-up of each tourist at the door of their hotel.
The tours to Cerro Colorado begin in the city of Cusco at dawn (4 or 5 a.m.) and conclude at night in the same place (5 or 6 p.m.).
What is the excursion to the rainbow mountain like?
The tour buses leave around 4:30 from Cusco, after a 2.5 hour journey, they stop for breakfast in Cusipata and take you to a parking lot where all the buses arrive.
From there you have to walk less than 5km to the top of the mountain. Likewise, the altitude requires a certain physical condition, so if you are not used to hiking it is advisable to prepare in advance or hire the horse service.
Currently there are 3 routes:
Through Cusipata this is the shortest route to reach the hill of 7 colors, and also the most traveled by travelers with a driving time of 1 hour and the walk an equal duration.
Through Pitumarca – Checacupe – Pampachiri, from the point it takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to walk. On the way you will also be able to appreciate the surrounding landscape.
Adventure Route (Ausangate) this is an option for adventure lovers. The hike can be done from 2 days to 7 days.
